Discours A Exeter (Angleterre), le 14 juin 2002

Durant sa visite en Angleterre, Michael a accepté, en faveur à son ami Uri Geller, de se rendre à Exeter dans le Devon pour promouvoir une levée de fonds en faveur du « Exeter City Football Club » et de deux organismes venant en aide aux enfants atteints du sida. Michael a parlé près de dix minutes devant une foule de 10,000 personnes rassemblées dans le stade St-James Park d’Exeter.

L’un des plus beaux discours de Michael, un très beau message d’amour.

« Hello everybody. Hello to you wonderful people of Exeter. To the great supporters of the Exeter City Football Club. Welcome to all the great fans that have come from here and far. To all you children.

I’m very happy, very happy to be here with you today. Today, today we come here to support children. We come here to support children with AIDS. To help, to help beyond these of those affected by HIV and AIDS.

We more help them to build a good future. All of us working together for them. A future without prejudice. For these children and their families.

We are here to support and help the people of Africa to find a solution in the fight against the swear of HIV AIDS … and malaria … through education and awareness, we aim at conviction but we help with cure.

We are here to support you, the supporters and players of this great football club.

Sadly, sadly, we live in a state of fear. Everyday we hear of war on the news, on the radio and television and the newspapers, always of war.

We hear of nations hurting each other, of neighbours hurting each other, of families hurting each other and the children killing each other.

We must learn to live and love each other before its too late. We have to stop! We have to stop the prejudice, we have to stop the hating, we have to stop living in fear of our own neighbours.

I would like all of you now to take the hand of the person to the left and to the right. Go ahead! Right now! I mean it! Dont be shy! Do it! It starts now! To the person next to you. To the left and the right. I mean it. Right now! Go ahead! Dont be shy. Do it! Do it! Now, tell the person … tell the person next to you that you care for them. Tell them that you care for them. Tell them that you love them. Tell them that you love them. This is what makes the difference.

Together … (Michael laughing) … (audience screaming) … together we can make a change of the world. Together we can help to stop racism. Together we can help to stop prejudice. We can help the world live without fear. Its our only hope, without hope we are lost.

(Applause, somebody in the audience screams: Whos gonna win on Saturday?)

England is gonna win? I believe you, I believe you. You know … I know nothing about sports but I believe you.

Hmmm, thank you all, thank you Exeter.

Bonjour tout le monde ! Bonjour à vous, gens merveilleux d’Exeter ! Et à vous, grands supporters du Football Club d’Exeter. Bienvenue à tous les fans d’ici et d’ailleurs ainsi qu’à vous tous, les enfants.

Je suis très heureux, très heureux d’être ici avec vous aujourd’hui. Aujourd’hui, aujourd’hui, nous sommes venus ici pour soutenir les enfants. Nous sommes venus ici pour soutenir les enfants atteints du sida. Pour aider, aider ceux qui sont atteints par le HIV et le SIDA

Nous les aiderons à construire un avenir meilleur. Tous ensembles travaillant pour eux. Pour un avenir sans préjudice. Pour ces enfants et leurs familles.

Nous sommes ici pour soutenir et aider le peuple africain à trouver une solution dans le combat contre l’épidémie du SIDA … de la malaria… à travers l’éducation et la prise de conscience, nous visons la prévention, mais nous aidons avec le remède.

Nous sommes ici pour vous soutenir, vous les supporters et joueurs de ce grand club de football.

Malheureusement, malheureusement, nous vivons en état de crainte. Chaque jour, nous entendons parler de la guerre aux nouvelles, à la radio et la télévision, dans les journaux, toujours la guerre.

Nous entendons parler de pays qui se déchirent, de voisins qui se déchirent, de familles qui se déchirent et d’enfants qui s’entre-tuent…

Nous devons apprendre à vivre et à nous aimer avant qu’il ne soit trop tard. Nous devons arrêter cela! Nous devons cesser les préjugés, nous devons briser la haine, nous devons cesser de vivre dans la crainte de nos propres voisins.

Je voudrais maintenant que tout le monde prenne la main de la personne à sa gauche et à sa droite. Allez-y, tout de suite, je ne plaisante pas, ne soyez pas timides, faites-le. Maintenant. A la personne à côté de vous, à votre gauche et à votre droite, c’est sérieux, allez-y tout de suite, ne soyez pas timides, faites-le… faites-le. Dites maintenant à la personne à côté de vous que vous vous souciez d’elle, dites-lui que vous vous faites du souci pour elle, dites-lui que vous l’aimez, dites-lui que vous l’aimez. C’est ce qui fait la différence. 

Ensemble … (Michael rigole) … (le public crie) Ensemble, nous pouvons changer le monde. Ensemble, nous pouvons aider à arrêter le racisme. Ensemble, nous pouvons aider à arrêter les préjugés, nous pouvons aider le monde et vivre sans crainte. C’est notre seul espoir, sans espoir, nous sommes perdus.

(Applaudissements, quelqu’un dans le public crie : Qui va gagner samedi ?)

L’Angleterre va-t-elle gagner ? J’ai confiance en vous, j’ai confiance en vous. Vous savez, je ne connais rien aux sports mais j’ai confiance en vous.
